Abstract
Our research study focuses on: “Analysis of the effects of household poverty on children’s school attendance in Burundi”. The main objective of our study is to analyze the effects of household poverty on children's school attendance in Burundi. The target population for this study is children aged 6 to 17. The data used comes from the Integrated Survey on Living Conditions in Burundi (EICVMB 2019/2020). We will conduct a descriptive analysis and an explanatory analysis.
The results obtained generally confirm the hypotheses formulated. Household poverty has a negative influence on school attendance among children aged 6-17 in Burundi. Middle-class and wealthy households send their children to school more than poor households. In addition, the results reveal that sociodemographic factors such as the age of the child and the size of the household have a negative influence on school attendance among children aged 6-17 in Burundi. In fact, as the age of the child increases, the probability of attending school decreases, and school attendance is higher in small households than in large ones. Finally, the results show that sociocultural factors such as the place of residence have a positive influence on school attendance among children aged 6-17 in Burundi. School attendance among children living in urban areas is significantly higher than among children living in rural areas
