Abstract

Since its independence, Burundi has experienced political and ethnic tensions that have repeatedly degenerated into deadly violence, resulting in significant losses of human life and property. To escape persecution, insecurity and violence in the country, a large number of Burundians have had to leave the country to settle in neighboring countries and even elsewhere. This thesis aims to study the policy of reintegration of returnees in their area of origin. It also looks at the challenges of implementing this policy. To address these challenges, the government of Burundi has set up commissions responsible for the return and reintegration of refugees, and these commissions must seek to resolve the difficulties associated with this process. The reintegration of refugees is characterized by many problems related to land conflicts that lead to a lack of arable land. The resources they have are also insufficient compared to the needs they find on site. Returnees from Rumonge commune have adapted to the situation by carrying out income-generating activities. Some practice trades such as fishing, sewing, masonry and other development projects. Refugees contribute an abundant workforce to the development of the country.
