Abstract
The socio-professional reintegration of individuals with a psychiatric history is a major challenge in mental health and social and professional integration. This study explores thepsychosocial factors influencing the reintegration of individuals who have experienced psychiatric disorders, focusing on internal factors, the support of mental health professionals, and community support. The research adopts a qualitative approach based on the qualitative analysis of data, with interviews as the primary factors for gathering direct information from participants. The study field is the CNPK (National Center for Psychiatric Care) in Bujumbura, specializing in psychiatric disorders. The target population includes adults aged 18 to 65 who have had psychiatric follow-up for at least one year, ensuring the relevance of the testimonies. The results show that the success of reintegration depends on several key factors. On one hand, internal elements such as resilience, self-confidence, and an understanding of the illness are crucial. Despite the risks of relapse and persistent stigma in society and the family, participants demonstrated their ability to overcome these obstacles through better management of their illness and effective coping strategies. On the other hand, the involvement of mental health professionals, such as psychologists, sociologists, and occupational therapists, plays a fundamental role. Their support during and after hospitalization helps reinforce behavioral strategies, ensure proper medication management, and facilitate adaptation to daily life. This approach also contributes to maintaining the psychological balance of individuals and promoting their reintegration into society and the professional environment. Community support is essential. Although stigma persists, some members of the community have positively contributed to reintegration by offering resources such as support groups, income-generating activities, and financial aid. This has allowed individuals to better integrate into their social and professional environments.
