Abstract

The crisis that Burundi has been experiencing since 2015 has affected the media. All the media were mobilized to cover the protests against President Nkurunziza's third term. From then on, the relations between the media and power began to deteriorate. The 2015 coup attempt only made matters worse. It served as a pretext for the destruction of the media and the exile of several journalists. Accused of having broadcast messages from the putschists and of having a pro-putschist attitude, the private radio and television stations were destroyed. The present work consists in analyzing not only the role played by the written press in the management of the 2015 crisis in Burundi, but also the consequences of the crisis on the media in general and the written press in particular. Our work focuses on the IWACU press group.
