| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to investigate problems that waiters and waitresses in hotels in Bujumbura encountered when communicating with English speaking customers in order to describe possible consequences of waiters and waitresses' ineffective communication and create specifie plans to improve their English language skills as weIl as aid in their professional advancement. The study was conducted by questionnaire distributed to 60 waiters and waitresses, with 49 completed copies returned for data analysis. The results revealed that waiters and waitresses in hotels in Bujumbura fail to communicate in English effectively because they had a low level of proficiency in English language, they lack ideal environment to learn and practice English language and lack fundamental knowledge in English. The results of this study will help the management of hotels in Bujumbura to have a clear understanding of problems that waiters and waitresses face when using English language~ Therefore, English training course incorporating speaking and listening skills should, emphas~ze. In addition, ~e results of this study provide some useful suggestions, and can be used. as guideline for creating effective English training course for waiters and waitresses. | |
