Contribution des mécanismes régionaux de prévention, de gestion et de résolution des conflits : Cas de l’intervention de la Communauté Est africaine dans la résolution de la crise burundaise de 2015

Abstract

This work entitled: "Contribution of regional mechanisms for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts: Case of the intervention of the East African Community in the resolution of the Burundian crisis of 2015" aims to analyze the contributions of the East African Community in the prevention, management and resolution of the 2015 Burundi crisis. One could fundamentally ask certain questions why, despite the will of the international community to prevent, manage and resolve the conflicts which arise in the world, cases of wars and hostilities between States or within those these keep happening overnight. Why then, despite this strong will of the international community to prevent conflicts, do they still occur? Are there conflict prevention mechanisms within the East African community? Are the management and resolution mechanisms appropriate? What are its limits and challenges? Many Burundians and the international community believed they had solved the ethnic problem with the Arusha agreement. This theme came back in force at the start of the third term of Pierre NKURUNZIZA, who was considered as a powder thrown on the fire to fueling the Burundian crisis. As a result, the East African Community, being a community with an economic vocation, could not manage to organize a dialogue between the Burundian actors involved in the crisis because of a lack of proven support from the international community, and also because of a lack of experience in mediation.
