The study assessed the determinants of the technological adoption as well as the factors constraining the production of irrigated rice in the western of Burundi. One hundred and twenty rice producers were surveyed for the study. Descriptive statistics and logit models were used in the analyzing data collected. The results revealed that diseases and pests were the most dominant factor limiting the production of rice whereas the model of logit showed land size, dependency ratio, experience and to be a member of an association significantly influence the adoption of new variety of rice Vl 4 while education of conjoint (wife), dependency ratio and off-farm income contribute to the optimal application of urea, the most used inorganic fertilizer in rice production in Gihanga.
